Description

Bernie Wrightson signed original "Frankenstein's monster" published plate from The Lost Frankenstein Pages. (ca. 1970s) Accomplished in pencil, pen, and ink on 15 x 20 in. artist board. Image measures 11 x 16 in. An uncommon and desirable illustration of Wrightson's Frankenstein. A labor of love, and a project that took Wrightson over seven years to complete. He created many pieces for the Frankenstein project, and not all of them were used for the final book. Many were published in subsequent portfolios, some remained unfinished, and a few, like this wonderful example, were completely finished. Wrightson hand-captions the piece, "...I was filled with the bitterest sensations of despondence and mortification". A work whose beauty and depth cannot be overstated. Detailed line work and an unforgettable image of the Monster make this piece desirable and extremely rare. Signed "Copyright 1980 Berni Wrightson" on small piece of film, affixed at lower right. Exhibiting toning and soiling to extreme outer edge and surface loss between caption and border not affecting either. In fine condition.
