Description

Bernie Wrightson Frankenstein Page 154 Illustration Original Art (1976). "I entered the room where the corpse lay, and was led up to the coffin." This stunning piece of original art is one of the very few pieces from Bernie Wrightson's seminal work that we have ever seen. Heritage has not offered a published original from this work since 2009. In an interview, Bernie Wrightson stated that he wanted the book "to look like an antique; to have the feeling of woodcuts or steel engravings, something of that era". The amount of detail on the page is simply staggering... from the creepy goblin lamp hanging overhead to the wood shavings on the work bench, this piece is packed with minute detail. This particular page was for Chapter 21 and appeared as page 154 in the published work. The page is signed in the original art area, then signed again and personalized in the lower margin. It is thought that this piece was one of the last few that Wrightson sold from his personal collection, as he held on to the ones he liked best the longest. It is created in ink on 15" x 20" illustration board with an 11" x 16" image area. There is slight handling wear on the edges and bottom margin, otherwise in Excellent condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
