Barry Windsor-Smith New Mutants #47 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1987). The New Mutants face impossible odds as they are overwhelmed by Magus' intimidating mass. The villainous leader of the Technarchy has come for his son Warlock and intends to destroy everyone that gets in his way. This cover features Cannonball, Magik, Sunspot, Wolfsbane, and Mirage, who will make their big-screen debut in the highly anticipated New Mutants film this fall. They are joined by teammates Magma and Karma in this last stand scenario drafted by the deft hand of Barry Windsor-Smith. This was one of ten covers Smith provided for the junior X-Men following Bill Sienkiewicz's legendary run on the series. Smith is arguably one of the few artists to pull off a depiction of the techno-organic race initially created by Sienkiewicz. He brings a slightly more traditional but effective approach to the character. Created in ink over blue pencil and graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". The page is lightly toned with light smudges around the margins. There are faint toning spots and adhesive residue spots in the top margin where the title would be, an adhesive residue spot on Cannonball, and a crease to the top right corner.
