Barry Smith X-Men #55 Cover Havok Original Art (Marvel, 1969). This cover is one of the earliest things the artist did for Marvel! Of course, the artist later known as Barry Windsor-Smith ascended to the ranks of fan favorites within just a few years. On this cover, you can tell Smith was trying to channel a bit of that ol' Jack Kirby magic, with the dynamic layout, forced perspective, the machinery at the bottom, and the "Kirby Krackle" black dots. The central figure is actually Alex Summers, aka Havok, for an issue that told his origin. With the entire X-Men team around him (Marvel Girl, Iceman, the Angel, the Beast, and Alex's brother Cyclops), this is an impressive cover! Rendered in ink over blue pencil and graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". The board is toned, and there are minor production stains in the lower area and stain dots in the upper area. The lower area has handling wear and surface soiling. In Very Good condition. There is a low-res printed logo affixed to an acetate flip-up overlay for presentation purposes.
