    Description

Barry Smith Turlough O'Brien Painting Original Art (c. 1970s). This painting is titled Turlough O'Brien. That is the anglicized name of Toirdelbach Ua Briain, who was the High King of Ireland from 1055-1086. Also, Turlogh Dubh O'Brien was a character created by Robert E. Howard, and who starred in several stories by the author. One of them, "The Dark Man", featured Howard's Pictish chieftain, Bran Mak Morn. Whatever the connection to this painting, it is clear that the richness of color and the beauty of the line in this piece cannot be overstated. The Celtic line work on the boat is mesmerizing. Although undated, the piece very much reminds us of his 1978 Fantastic Islands portfolio featuring giants and may well have been produced around that time. Created in mixed media, this piece is matted with an image area of 10.5" x 14.5". In Excellent condition.
