Alex Raymond Flash Gordon Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 7-12-36 (King Features Syndicate, 1936). Flash, Dale, and Zarkov are chained by the neck, and Flash appears to be knocked unconscious, or maybe even dead -- that is, until Pluton has him unchained! Fantastic, action-packed "Water World of Mongo" Sunday from one of the finest artists to be found in the "funny pages," Alex Raymond. The Flash Gordon comic strip was originally conceived as a rival to the popular Buck Rogers newspaper feature, but quickly found favor with readers, and for good reason -- not only did the art look far superior, but the stories (co-written with Don Moore) were wonderfully engaging as well. This sterling example featuring the lovely Dale in bondage is in ink on board with an approximate image area of 23.75" x 18.75", matted to an overall 30" x 2.75". There are a few minor stains in the last panel, along with some light toning, but overall, the art remains in Excellent condition.
