    Description

Alex Raymond Flash Gordon and Jungle Jim Sunday Comic Strip Original Art Group of 2 dated 3-4-34 (King Features Syndicate, 1934). Flash Gordon and Jungle Jim in their ninth appearances in these matching dated strips! It is also the earliest example of these strips that Heritage Auctions has ever handled. When he was asked to create an adventure strip to compete with Buck Rogers, Alex Raymond came up with Flash Gordon, a strip that not only competed with but eventually eclipsed Buck Rogers. Not content with just that, he doubled-down by creating an answer to Tarzan for a "topper" strip in Jungle Jim. Between them, the two would go on to become radio shows, movie serials, TV shows, movies, and comic books. The fantastic art of Alex Raymond would inspire cartoonist for generations to come. Produced in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 25.5" x 12" and 25.5" x 20". Signed in the last panel of the Flash Gordon strip. Plexiglas front framed to 33" x 41.5". Slight tanning, otherwise in Excellent condition.
