    Description

Al Capp Li'l Abner Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 11-4-45 (United Feature Syndicate, 1945). Only the absence of the Li'l Abner logotype tier prevents this bitterly funny episode from being complete. The lower four tiers, however, are intact per se -- a desperate situation for Abner Yokum and his Mammy Pansy and Pappy Lucifer. Evil scientists have trapped the Yokums with only enough sustenance for two, in a diabolical experiment. Brilliant combination of mortal terror and sarcastic humor, following a cardinal rule of adventure-story writing: "First, kill your hero. Then, get him out of it." (The missing logo banner would have contained the title, along with character-portraits.) Ink over graphite on vertically conjoined strips of Bristol board. Image area, 19" x 22". Overall soiling, adhesive staining, and tape residue. Good condition.
