Al Capp Li'l Abner Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 10-12-34 (United Features Syndicate, 1934). At first glance, these characters don't look like the familiar denizens of Dogpatch we all know so well! They have some future development to go, to be sure -- check out Pappy Yokum, who looks a good twelve inches taller than we are used to. The biggest difference is in Daisy Mae, who looks very little like the famous character she would become. Al Capp created this classic "hillbilly" strip in 1934 after a stint ghosting the Joe Palooka strip for Ham Fisher. It was an instant success, running for over forty years. Here's a chance to own a beautiful example from the strip's first year of publication, featuring all of the star characters. The image area measures approximately 22" x 5"; Panel 3 has a pasted-on text correction that has a few rubber-cement stains, otherwise this page is in Very Good condition, with soiling, corner and edge wear, and overall toning to the board.
