    Description

Murder My Sweet (RKO, 1944). Half Sheet (22" X 28"). Up until the early the release of this film, Dick Powell was known as a "song and dance man," having starred in many of the early Warner Brothers musicals. But by the early forties Powell's career was stalling and in a downturn. When director Ed Dmytryk decided to take a chance on casting Powell as the hard-nosed private eye Philip Marlowe, there was a good bit of resistance from the studio. The studio decided to rename the film from its original title from the best-selling novel by Raymond Chandler, "Farewell My Lovely", as they were afraid the public might think this another Powell musical! What was produced is considered to be one of the great early landmark films of the film noir genre. This "B" style Half Sheet is rarely seen as the other style is similar to the Title Lobby Card. Folded-Very Fine+.
