DescriptionGobbledygook #1 Signed by Eastman and Laird (Mirage Studios, 1984) Condition: VF/NM. The first time the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ever appeared in print was on the back cover of this rare issue, probably the most valuable 1980s comic.
Reportedly just 50 copies of Gobbledygook #1 were made, and all were produced on a photocopier. While CGC does not certify this comic, our three in-house graders who examined the issue graded it VF+, VF/NM, and VF/NM respectively.
This is the first comic published by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird's Mirage Studios. Later that spring, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 was released, in a meager first printing of 3,000 copies that still dwarfs that of Gobbledygook!
This copy is signed by Eastman and Laird on the inside front cover and has a small Turtle sketch. Our consignor attests to the provenance as follows: "I am the former archivist for Mirage Studios (during the early 90's) and was the person who collected all products for the studio's archives. I received these copies from Kevin Eastman back in the mid-80's, and had him and Peter Laird sign each book in 1993." Mr. Eastman confirmed the above as well. Overstreet 2011 VF/NM 9.0 value = $3,310; NM- 9.2 value = $5,000.
