The Profit #1 (Gobroke Press, 1966) Condition: FN. Joel Beck's The Profit is one of the first Underground comics. The Profit was the third book done by Beck; at the time, the term Underground had not been created. Beck was part of a loose group of cartoonists who got their start on college campuses across the country during the early-to-mid 1960s. Everything came to a head (so to speak) with the publication of Robert Crumb's Zap Comix #1 in February, 1968. Shortly after, Joel Beck began to get his due, and his pioneering efforts like this began to climb in value. This is a nice, mid-grade copy of a particularly tough item to find. Jerry Weist, in his 2000 Comic Art Price Guide section on Undergrounds, gives this a value of $150 in FN.
