    Description

The Complete Foo Artist's Proof Group (Bijou, 1980) Condition: Average FN/VF. Do you Foo? Few do! We're of course talking about the three-issue group of fanzines originally published in 1958 by the Crumb Brothers, Robert and Charles. The digest-sized pamphlets are impossibly scarce, and represent the first published work by the talented Crumb siblings. Robert went on to world-wide fame with his memorable Underground Comix creations (Zap, Fritz the Cat, Mr. Natural, to name only a few), while older brother Charles, easily an equal to Robert, faded from sight, a victim of mental illness who took his own life shortly before the release of the "Crumb" documentary film. This package includes "artist's proof" editions of all three issues in an envelope which tells the Foo story. Included with this batch are the original photocopied proofs for each issue. This package was originally limited to an edition of 800; Jerry Weist's 2000 Comic Art Price Guide lists the facsimile edition with a FN value of $75, and a NM value of $125.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
