Hal Forrest and Reynold Brown Tailspin Tommy Daily Comic Strip #3040 Original Art dated 2-1-38 (Bell Syndicate, 1938). A large-scale example of the trailblazing airplane-adventure comic, inspired by the feats of Charles Lindbergh. Original artist Forrest (also the writer, since 1933) penciled this episode. Brown's lavish, woodcut-styled inking is a prelude to his larger career as a Realist painter and movie-poster designer. Signed twice by Forrest. Personalized inscription to schoolboy cartoonist Jack Kent, who would grow up to create the celebrated comic strip King Aroo. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 26.25" x 7". Pronounced toning (more conspicuous at edges). Editorial notes in margins, with a syndicate engraving order attached at reverse. Very Good condition. From the Jack Kent Collection.
