U.S. Army Training Center Playset Complete in Original Box (Louis Marx and Company, c. 1950s). Rare complete U.S. Army Training Center playset, made by Marx in the 1950s. It is in the original complete illustrated box with all four sides, lid, and three tuck-in flaps as issued and with four of the Marx printed paper bags that held the components.
The paper bags are somewhat crumpled and have some tears and/or holes, yet are in sound condition. The only damage to contents is slight surface wear to the lithographed HQ building and the broken-off peg for the propeller on one of the fighter airplanes (and it is included and could be easily reattached). There is a small piece of masking tape on the front side of the exterior of the box, and the number 4139 is written in black marker on one side end of the box. Overall set condition is Very Fine. This lot will have to ship from Dallas to the winning bidder.

    More Information:

    Included in the set are:

    1) Lithographed Metal Building titled "Headquarters U.S. Army Training Center T3-21" with four unassembled sections - base, front and side walls, roof, and chimney. The front and side walls are lithographed on the exterior and interior. There is the slightest amount of surface wear.

    2) Soldiers - two sets of 22 soldiers in each olive green plastic that measure from 1" height (kneeling) to 2.5" height (carrying flag); most standing soldiers are 2" in height. There are four identical marching at shoulder arms, four marching with rifle slung over shoulder, and one of each of 14 varied poses. These are all of matching color.

    3) Six Seated Soldiers of a lighter green color.

    4) Two Army Vehicles in hard plastic - an M12 Rocket Launcher and Tank with the number 1 inside a triangle on the side. Each of these vehicles has two separate wheel and axle units that snap into place on the underside.

    5) Headquarters Equipment of hard dark-brown plastic, including the following (one of each unless noted): desk; two chairs; swivel chair (two pieces); bench; waste basket; table; filing cabinet; rifle stack; rifle case; and telephone switchboard.

    6) Field Equipment of hard plastic including the following (one of each unless noted): two different machine guns on tripod (two pieces); two barrels; two rifle stacks; recoilless rifle on tripod (two pieces); bazooka; and three tents.

    7) Aircraft of hard plastic including: two fighter propeller airplanes (one has a broken-off peg for propeller that is included); one bomber airplane; one larger fighter jet airplane; two aircraft towing vehicles, each with two sets of wheels that snap into place on the underside; and two separate airplane propellers.

    8) Flags and Fence of plastic, metal, paper, and wood: one plastic stone stand; one American flag of lithographed metal; one American flag of printed paper attached to wood pole; one gray plastic flagpole; and ten sections of white fence that link together.

    9) Four printed paper bags that originally held components of the set, and are titled Soldiers, Headquarters Equipment, Field Equipment, and Plane-Tractor.
