Description

1962 Topps Civil War News Cards - Complete Set of 88. Lot includes the complete set of 88 cards and an extra #88 (checklist). This controversial 1962 set from Topps presented a sensationalized account of the tragic four-year conflict. The dynamic artwork by Norman Saunders emphasized extreme violence - with imagery so gratuitous that it prompted pushback from concerned parents at the time. The cards depict several of the most well-known battles along with a dramatic title, the name of the conflict, and the corresponding date. On the reverse side, there is a brief description framed as a newspaper article. The original packs included a replica of Confederate money (not part of this lot), one of 17 different bills, with denominations ranging from $1 to $1,000. The bills were smaller than the original currency and folded in half to fit inside the packs.
Condition: See Images - The grades of these cards range from VG to Near Mint-Mint.
From the Collection of Greg Jein.
