Description
The Q-Collection Comic Book Preservation Project Lot of 700-Plus Items (2001-2019). The Q-Collection was begun in 2001 as a result of a purchase by John Offerman Sindall, Ph.D. of a rare 1939 copy of New York World's Fair, the forerunner of DC's World's Best Comics, which in turn became World's Finest Comics. John sent the comic to a professional restoration specialist, who found that the comic was brittle, with effective restoration not possible.John was told that due to the interaction of oxygen and the acidic pulp paper that all comic books had been printed on, all comics published between the 1930s and the 1970s would follow suit. They were all doomed to turn brittle and eventually to dust - even those that had been encapsulated by professional grading companies for their protection. The Q-Preservation Project was created to rescue and preserve this important part of American history and culture.
The project lasted from 2001 to 2019. The result was 278 Golden Age and Silver Age key comics and 460 comic book-related items rescued and preserved.
Each comic book in the Q has been disassembled with each page laminated using long-life UV-resistant Mylar laminate material. Missing pages and/or covers were replaced wherever possible making each comic as complete as possible.
Additional details of the history of this exhaustive project and the contents of the 72 binders that comprise the collection can be seen by visiting the Q-Project website at q-comics.com. You can view the details of each of the binders at binder details. If any discrepancies are discovered in these detailed documents, updates will be posted, appending our online description.
Please note: no returns will be accepted on this lot! While John Sindall has made a concerted effort to itemize the contents of each binder, by the very nature of this project, there may be missing items from some series that have not been noted. The project documents at the q-collection.com website highlight details about what's in each of the 72 binders. Any questions on this lot must be asked before placing a bid. All questions we receive within a reasonable amount of time before the auctions closes will be answered. Direct your questions to Aaron White at aaronw@ha.com.
