Description

Superman Spinner Rack Topper (DC, c. 1940). This unbelievably rare item marks our second encounter with a spinner rack topper, and our first in the better part of 10 years. The iconic Superman logo is lifted straight from the cover of Superman #6, placing DC's most famous creation as the arbiter of advertising for titles including Superman, Batman, More Fun Comics, Adventure Comics, Detective Comics, Flash Comics, Action Comics, and All-American Comics. Presumably, this topper graced the top of a rack for the Christmas season of the year 1940, just five months after the first appearance of the classic Superman logo and one month after the beginning of Jay Garrick's first outing in Flash Comics. Our research returns that this item has never come to auction before now, making this topper all the more alluring for an early Golden Age collector. Item measures 16" x 24" from edge to edge, presenting with creasing, rippling, abrasions, light water damage to left edges, pieces missing from the bottom left corner, and paint chipping. In Very Good condition.
