Superman Kellogg's Pep Cereal Retail Standee (DC Comics/Kellogg Co., 1947). Ripe for restoration, this retail display is among very few of its kind to have survived -- most were destroyed by their host-grocers after the novelty had worn off. Superman sold mass quantities of breakfast cereal, in addition to his career as a star of comics, radio, and the movies. He hadn't yet graduated to television when this monumental display piece arrived, but Kellogg liked the endorsement so well that the company stuck around to sponsor the 1950s TV show, The Adventures of Superman. The unbilled artist appears to have modeled Superman's face after Kirk Alyn, who starred in two Superman serials during the 1940s. The die-cut cardboard has seen better days as a grocery-store display, but its elements are intact despite a horizontal break at the center; pronounced color-fading, and significant edge damage and staining. The easel on the reverse has a rip, but is otherwise intact and functional. Dimensions, 26.25" x 39.25. Fair condition.
