DescriptionSnoopy and "It Was a Dark and Stormy Night" Pre-publication Presentation Transparencies Set of 22 (Holt, Rinehart, and Winston, 1971). "It was a Dark and Stormy Night..." The first known use of this phrase is credited to Washington Irving in his novel "A History of New York.", but it is best known today as the opening line of aspiring author Snoopy in the creation of his literary magnum opus. Presented is a complete set of 22 overhead projector transparencies presumably created for the sales pitch of this book to its potential publisher. Released in October 1971, this was the first of what became a series of short stories featuring Snoopy and his fellow Peanuts characters. Each of the 22 transparencies is mounted in a 10.5" x 12" cardboard mounting frame and bears the hand-written working title "Snoopy Writes a Novel". This lot is an incredibly unique piece of Peanuts memorabilia and possibly the only complete set of pre-published images from this popular book in existence today. The set is contained in a 3-ring binder. Each transparency shows minor handling and condition for the group is Very Good.
