    Description

Sabre Car Friction Motor Toy in Original Box (Louis Marx and Company, c. 1950s). This is the nifty Sabre Car "ultra modern sports roadster" automobile toy made by Marx in the early 1950s. It's a hard plastic and metal toy sports car with driver, in its original illustrated box. The toy is based on the Buick prototype sports car ad has a "powerful friction drive engine... with siren and sparkling exhaust."
The car has a yellow plastic body, with silver-color interior and front and rear fenders; a red steering wheel; clear light-amber windshield; and original driver in brown and flesh tones. The hubcaps, axles, and friction-drive motor are made of metal. It is in working order: when moved along a flat surface, the siren is heard and the friction-drive motor engages so that when it is released it continues to move forward. However, sparks do not appear in the exhaust.
This toy is in very nice condition. There are no surface scratches or signs of wear; the driver is loose but sits securely behind the wheel just as it should, and the metal shows no sign of tarnishing. The box is complete with all inner and outer flaps; it has darkened only a bit with age. There are a few creases and small tears along the edges. Box condition is Fine, while the toy car is in Fine+ condition.
