Description
ROBOTANK-Z R1 Robot Toy in Original Box (Nomura, c. 1960s).This is a remarkable Battery Operated ROBOTANK-Z R1 #352 robot toy made by Nomura in Japan in the 1960s. It is powered by two "D" batteries (not included) and is in excellent working order. When batteries are installed and the switch on the underside is moved into position, the robot goes into action. It walks forward in a somewhat circular pattern; the light illuminated the "brain" section that rotates continuously, sound effects are heard, and the arms move forward and backward. It periodically stops moving and two guns in the front panel emerge to fire with blazing lights and firing sounds.
The robot is made of metal and plastic with multi-color imagery including an alien landscape in the front panel, with the designation R 1. The battery chamber is accessed from the underside. The plastic head is clear and allows a fine view of the robot's rotating brain. Manufacturer's trade mark "T.N." and "Made in Japan" appear on the back. Robot's size is 10.25" height x 5.625" x 7.75"; two-piece box size is 11.25" x 8" x 5.75".
The original box and lid has splendid imagery, titles and details of the toy's operation on top and sided. "T.N. Trade Mark/Item #352" and "Made in Japan" appear on top of the lid. The box is complete except that one-half of one side panel of the lid; blank board has been glued in place. Toy is in excellent like-new condition; there is surface scratching only on the underside, and the wheels show light use or wear. The decorated box shows edge wear, a small tear, and creasing; one corner of the lid is pushed in, and the one missing panel has been replaced with blank board. Box is in Very Good condition; robot is in Very Fine condition.
