Description

Will Eisner (as Carl Heck) Uncle Otto Printing Plate and Reproduction (Eisner & Iger Studios and Empire Features, c. 1930s). Eisner used various pen-names during the earlier stages of his career -- well before he revolutionized the comic-book/newspaper-strip industries with The Spirit. "The point of my using different names," the great artist told us during the 1980s, "was to make our little studio look bigger." He reserved the Carl Heck monicker for Uncle Otto, a daily gag-strip in a style that seemed old-fashioned even during the 1930s. This selection is a zinc printing plate for one episode, matted alongside a reproduction. The item is Plate #35 from the collection of J.M. Getsinger. Image area, 11" x 14", matted to 16" x 20". Excellent condition.
