    Description

The Wonderful World of Oz Theme Park Map and Overview Print (Landmark Entertainment, c. 1990s). This theme park project initially acquired the "Wizard of Oz" character and name rights from Turner Entertainment in 1986. It was a proposed 60 acre theme park that would house six sections, much like the sections at Disneyland. This is a very rare map of the proposed "Wonderful World of Oz" Theme Park with all six sections. The sections within this map were to be themed around "Old Kansas," "Munchkinland," "Yellow Brick Country," "The Wicked Witch's Haunted Forest," "Glinda's Northern Kingdom," and of course "The Emerald City." This extremely rare overview map is in a frame measuring 53" x 39". It showcases the incredible amount of work that went into the development of this park by Landmark Entertainment. It may be one of only a handful that exist. Also in this lot is a mounted print of the bird's eye overview of the entire 900 acres that was to include, in addition to the theme park, a hotel, a golf course, and RV Park, a lake area, and a shopping and entertainment district. This rare bird's eye view of this aggressive project is mounted to board measuring 24" x 55". The print is hand embellished in some areas with paint. These two pieces showcase the history of this aggressive and failed Wizard of Oz theme park project for Kansas. Frame is sold as-is. Artwork has minor handling and edge wear. The overall condition is Good. This lot will have to ship from Dallas to the winning bidder.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
