Pinocchio Memorabilia (Walt Disney, 1940). The Burbank Walt Disney Studios opened on 2/23/40. It was said it was built with the revenue earned from the 1937 animated feature film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This collection of Pinocchio items comes from the personal collection of the family Ben Carter. Mr. Carter was the chief engineer for the installation of the Air Conditioning system at the studio. He was an employee of General Electric Company in Bloomfield New Jersey. In a newspaper article from the Elkhorn Independent newspaper, dated Thursday, October 31, 1940 he says he kept a scrapbook during his year-long stay in California as the resident engineer. He talks about keeping articles, photos of the project, and animation drawings given to him. In this lot is a 9" x 7.5" Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket fan card that is hand-signed by Walt Disney (studio signature, not from Walt's hand; possibly by Hank Porter) to Ben Carter's daughter. It reads "Best Wishes to Mary Elizabeth Walt Disney". The lot also includes two Pinocchio Programs for the premiere held at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood on Friday, February 9th 1940, and a 1939 studio 7-page holiday card that promoted the upcoming Pinocchio release and other studio projects, designed by Hank Porter. A set of seven studio publicity fan cards of Mickey and Minnie, Ferdinand, Donald Duck, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Dopey, Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket, Geppetto, Figaro, and Cleo. The final items from the scrap book are two paper mache table place setting of Pinocchio's head with names of Ben Carter and his wife Rosemary written on them. Inside is a tag that reads Walt Disney Enterprises Adler Favit Novelty St. Louis, MO. It is believed these are from a premiere party. They are in Fair condition. A copy of that 1940 newspaper article is also included. Overall most items are in Good condition.
