    Description

Art Spiegelman In the Temple of the Cartoon Gods and Mousetrap Posters Group of 2 (1989-2000). Spiegelman's passion for comic art is such that he has reinvented the idiom in ways similar to Robert Crumb and Will Eisner -- expanding the possibilities while honoring the form and its visual/verbal grammar. These large-scale gems state Spiegelman's case in vivid terms: Mousetrap (#45 of a 200-print edition) is a tangent from his Pulitzer-anointed graphic novel, Maus, an account of the World War II-era Holocaust as told by the artist's father, Vladek Spiegelman. In the Temple of the Cartoon Gods (un-numbered but signed) finds Spiegelman assigning himself a lesser rank among such essential artists as Undergrounders Crumb and Robert Williams and EC Comics' Wally Wood. Also pictured are Crumb's Mr. Natural, Williams' Coochy Cooty, and a Wood-style little-kid character. Dimensions, 18" x 24" and 20" x 28". Light folding on Temple. Excellent condition.
