Who Framed Roger Rabbit Lena Hyena Animation Drawing Group of 9 with Studio Print Group of 5 (Walt Disney/Amblin, 1988). "Yoo-Hoo! Loverboy! It's Lena Hyena!" Lena the Hyena, the world's ugliest woman prepares to lay a kiss on the nearest man, Eddie Valiant, in this collection of 9 zany animation drawings and five studio prints from the production of Buena Vista Pictures Who Framed Roger Rabbit! The face of Lena Hyena was first revealed in 1946, drawn by amateur artist Basil Wolverton, and decided upon by celebrity judges Frank Sinatra, Boris Karloff, and Salvador Dali in coordination with an art contest held by Al Capp, the creator of Lil' Abner. Decades after her creation, Lena was brought to life in a style inspired by that of Tex Avery, for a brief cameo within the animated world of Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The theatrical box-office blockbuster was a collaborative masterpiece of hybrid live-action and animation by the teams of Walt Disney Feature Animation and Amblin Entertainment. The groundbreaking animation alone was a wonderous feat achieved by two teams - Walt Disney Animation UK and Walt Disney Feature Animation, Burbank. This collection of nine rough drawings featuring "the world's ugliest woman" in pursuit are rendered in graphite and color pencil on animation paper measuring 12.5" x 17" and the five heart drawings are the studio prints. and are in Very Good condition overall, exhibiting expected wear from handling. These drawings were utilized in the development of live-action and animated sequence starring actor Bob Hoskins as Private Detective Eddie Valiant, appearing around the 1:11:57-1:11:58 mark of the motion picture. These animation artifacts depicting the world's ugliest animated character give a respective nod to artist Basil Wolverton and a glimpse into the meticulous planning and artistry that was involved in one of the most unexpected and comedic gag sequences produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation for Buena Vista Pictures Who Framed Roger Rabbit!Auction Info
