Description
Who Framed Roger Rabbit Droopy Dog Animation Drawing Sequence of 7 (Walt Disney/Amblin, 1988). "Going up? Hold on, sir." Serving as a bellhop for a Toontown apartment, Tex Avery's delightfully deadpan Droopy Dog is presented in this dynamic sequence of 7 original rough animation drawings from his cameo appearance in the innovatively collaborative live action/animated film Who Framed Roger Rabbit. In an unusual twist of fate, Steven Spielberg can be credited as a major player in jumpstarting the Disney Renaissance era thanks to his production company Amblin Entertainment joining forces with Walt Disney Studios to create this unparalleled and near-universally acclaimed film which saw an immensely successful theatrical release in June 1988. Featuring a united cast of characters like never before, Roger Rabbit is a veritable who's-who of animation stars hailing from various studios and creators; Droopy himself is a 1943 Tex Avery creation who starred in over 20 theatrical shorts (plus the 3 Roger Rabbit sequel shorts) as well as making small screen appearances alongside Tom and Jerry. He can be seen closing the gate to assist Eddie with the Toontown apartment's elevator beginning near the 1:11:28 timestamp, speaking in his iconic expressionless tone. Loosely rendered primarily in graphite and blue pencil on sheets of 16 field animation, Droopy is featured in partial-figures ranging in size from 6.5" x 9.5" to a fantastically frame-filling 11.5" x 12" with frame numbers found in the lower right corners (including 1, the first image in the sequence) all of which are circled possibly indicating they were drawn by his supervising animator. With typical handling and edge wear including faint age-related toning, areas of smudging from studio art corrections, superficial surface/edge wrinkles, and a few small edge tears, overall this apathetic attendant's sequence is in Good condition.Auction Info
