Description

Who Framed Roger Rabbit Benny the Cab Animation Drawing Sequence of 9 (Walt Disney/Amblin, 1988). "Would you look at these two- Excuse me, ladies. Now that's what I call a couple of road hogs!" The chase is on for Benny the Cab in this expressive sequence of 9 original rough animation drawings from the groundbreaking live action/animated film Who Framed Roger Rabbit. A collaborative masterpiece by Walt Disney Studios and Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment, this feature released in June 1988 to critical and commercial success helping to kickstart the Disney Renaissance era. From Benny's introductory chase scene, these drawings were used to create the sequence beginning near the 58:22 timestamp shortly after Roger unintentionally springs the cab from Toon Patrol custody while he and Eddie try to avoid capture themselves. Loosely rendered in graphite and/or blue pencil on sheets of 16 field animation, this sequence has image areas ranging from a 6.5" x 4.5" partial-figure image of Benny's mouth to an outstandingly frame-filling 14" x 8.5" front-facing full-figure. The sheets contain frame numbers in the lower right corners (including 1, the first image in the sequence) most of which are circled possibly indicating they were drawn by his supervising animator, with several also bearing dialogue notes for a line that seems to have been cut short during the final editing and would have had Benny exclaiming, "Would you look at these two fat asses!" With typical handling and edge wear including faint age-related toning, some peghole reinforcement, superficial surface/edge wrinkles, and a few small edge tears, overall this foul-mouthed sequence is in Good condition.
