Description
The Art of The Lion King First Edition Signed Book (Walt Disney/Hyperion, 1994). This is the first title in the fine series of art books on the making of Walt Disney Feature Animation films of the modern era; it presents a detailed, lavishly illustrated look at the production of Disney's greatest animated feature of the 1990s: The Lion King (1994). The period from the release of Oliver & Company (1988) through Lilo and Stitch (2002) represents a true renaissance in the art of hand-drawn animation. Pictured throughout this handsome volume are behind-the-scenes photographs, art created in the making of the film, and scenes from the movie. Written by Christopher Finch, author of the important book The Art of Walt Disney (originally published in 1973), and with an introduction by James Earl Jones (voice of Mufasa). This copy is signed by seventeen of The Walt Disney Studios artists who produced the film, each of whom noted the character he or she drew, or role in the production: Roger Allers, director; Rob Minkoff, director; Andreas Deja, supervising animator; James Baxter, supervising animator; Mark Henn, supervising animator; Michael Surrey, supervising animator; Tony Bancroft, supervising animator; Ellen Woodbury, supervising animator; Anthony De Rosa, supervising animator; David Burgess, supervising animator; Tony Fucile, supervising animator; Thom Enriquez, story; Andy Gaskill, art direction, story; Chris Sanders, production design, story; Don Hahn, producer; Kent Melton, sculptor; and Hans Bacher, character design/visual development. Thom Enriquez drew Simba as a young cub next to his signature; he developed the scenes of Mufasa and his son. The book is clothbound in dust jacket, and out-of-print; 196 pages, measuring 10.5" x 13.5". A Howard Lowery Certificate of Authenticity verifying the legitimacy of the signatures is included.
