Mr. Bug Goes to Town Ephemera Group of 8 (Max Fleischer, 1941-42). The Fleischer Studio's excellent second animated feature was an unfortunate victim of circumstance. Originally planned as a Christmas, 1941 release, the December 9th bombing of Pearl Harbor and subsequent US entry into World War II scuttled those plans, and when the film finally received widespread theatrical distribution, the box office receipts never matched the studio's expectations. Finding printed publicity material for Mr. Bug Goes to Town isn't easy, but here are a few choice items from this recently restored and reevaluated film. First is a very rare mini window card measuring 8" x 14"; its attractively hand-lettered notations in the top blank space indicate this was used for a theater in Boyaca, Columbia, in South America. Next is a very colorful four-page ad for the film, apparently cut from a trade magazine. The ad page size is approximately 9" x 12", with a die-cut hole in the Honey Shop have that reveals an eye peering out. The pages have been taped together along the left side edge. Next is an original Mr. Bug Goes to Town 8-page press kit, plus an inserted mini-poster; the "Press Sheet" publication measures 9.75" x 14.75" and the insert's unfolded size is 7.25" x 9.75". Finally, there are five copies of sheet music from the film, with songs written by Hoagy Carmichael and others. Song titles include "We're the Couple in the Castle" (two different versions), "Be My Little Baby Bumble Bee," and "Boy, Oh Boy!" (two different versions). Condition varies from Good to Very Good, with some items displaying handling and edge wear.
