McDonald's Golden Arches Sign from Early Drive-Thru (1975). McDonald's restaurants began operating drive-thru windows in 1975. Here's the famous "Golden Arches" signage from one of the earliest drive-thrus to open; in fact, it was planned as the very first. The location was in Oklahoma City, and the drive-thru had planned to open in late October, 1974. While refining the design, word spread among McDonald's franchises, and a drive-thru was quickly established in Sierra Vista, Arizona, opening on January 24, 1975. The drive-thru at this Oklahoma City location on Pennsylvania Avenue was opened on April 5, 1975. The Golden Arches sign from Oklahoma City is in painted plastic and Fiberglas measuring 55" x 31.5". Photocopied pages from the McDonald's Managers newsletter concerning this store are included. The arches sign shows use and wear, but will make a wonderful display for any fan of this American Classic. Good condition.
