Hayao Miyazaki Image Board SOLD-OUT Art Book (Kodansha, 1983). Dive into the wonderful artwork of Hayao Miyazaki with this lot, featuring a rare copy of the 1983 art book Hayao Miyazaki Image Board. Predating Miyazaki's second animated film, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind by a year, this sensational out-of-print volume compiles in its 80 pages a great number of his sketches, reproduced with vivid colors. Among the collected pieces in this 8.25" x 10" book, we see his ideas for an early version of Princess Mononoke, preliminary ideas for Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Castle in the Sky, and even My Neighbor Totoro! Additionally, the book shows some of his ideas for a Pippi Longstocking adaptation and sketches featuring the characters of the 1972 series Panda! Go, Panda! It's fascinating that this art book comes from an era before Miyazaki was regarded as one of the most renowned animation directors and two years before the founding of Studio Ghibli. A small fold crease can be seen on the bottom left corner of the cover. Showing overall minor handling and edge wear, the condition is Very Good.Auction Info
