Description

GI Joe - Original Action Soldier Hand-Painted Prototype Box (Hasbro, 1964). Another round of early prototype mock-up boxes, these were produced after the "GI Joe" name was firmly in place, and the figures were about to storm the toy stores of the world. Offered here is the Action Soldier box, brightly colored in a design that closely resembles the final production piece, this features a hand-painted image of the combat-ready action soldier. Interestingly, the figures on the side panels have been individually cut out and glued to the background panels. Sets pictured on the side panels include "Command Post," "Military Police,' "Combat," and "Bivouac." Stands 13" tall by 3.5" wide, and in excellent condition overall, though the artwork from the top panel has been lost in the intervening years. A fantastic artifact for the serious Joe collector, and sure to have some crossover with original art collectors as well. From the personal collection of Don Levine, creator of GI Joe.
