Description

Fleischer/Famous Studios Inter-Company Letters and Employee Cards Group of 22 (Fleischer/Famous Studios, 1931-45). Abner Kneitel (1914 - 1980) was the nephew of Seymour Kneitel and an animator that began his career with Max Fleischer in 1931 which ended in 1945 when Paramount moved the studio back to New York. Here's a fascinating collection of Abner's letters from both studios, with his employment contracts on Fleischer letterhead paper signed by Max. There are Fleischer Studios letters dating to 1931, when Abner filled in as a colorist during the summer; two-page contract letters dated 1934, 1937, and 1940; a letter dated 1934 informing Abner that he is being moved to the Animation Department; a bank agreement concerning Abner's pay dated 1935; a letter informing Abner's acceptance at Fleischer's new studio in Miami, Florida; and a letter concerning the cost of moving Abner to Miami, partially paid by the studio. There are two letters from Sam Buchwald at Famous Studios asking when Abner would be released from the Navy and a letter from Sam wishing Abner the best of luck when he left the company. There are also Fleischer employee cards from 1931 and 1943, plus two Screen Cartoonists cards from 1944 and 1945. Finally, there's a small newspaper clipping that concerns the bankruptcy filing of Out of the Inkwell Studio, which would soon become Fleischer Studios. The 17 pages of letters are on brown, yellow, or cream-colored paper and have a few fold creases and handling wear. Overall condition is Fair to Good.
