Description
Disneyland - Rocket to the Moon Limited Edition Model Production Sample Designed by Kevin and Jody (Walt Disney, 2010). Get ready to "blast off into space" with this very rare replica of the 1955 TWA Moonliner, aka the "Rocket to the Moon." This Tomorrowland park attraction opened on July 22, 1955, and at 76 feet tall, it was Disneyland's tallest attraction until it was removed in 1967 to make way for the Carousel of Progress. Other than missing the original TWA logo, this faithful model retains the original red stripe decorations. It was designed by The Kevin and Jody Show team of Kevin Kidney and Jody Daily in an edition of 500 pieces that quickly sold out, featured as part of Disneyland's 55th Anniversary celebration. This model is noted on the bottom of the base as the first sample that was presented to Kevin and Jody for approval; it remained as part of their shop archive until now. The resin and metal rocket and base stand approximately 22" tall x 10" deep x 6.5" wide. The base is designed to light up, and there are batteries in the base bottom, but the lights do not come on; this collectible item is sold as is with no implied working order. There is a loose-fitting clear plastic cover of the "Moon portal" on the base, but it was not included on models we've seen; the small hand-trimmed moon image on plastic with a paper backer is also loose on the model. The rocket is designed to detach from the stand. Condition is Very Good with minor handling.Auction Info
