Disneyland - Park-Used Fire Hydrant (Walt Disney, c. 1950s-1990s). This opportunity may never come up again! This is an actual park-used fire hydrant from Disneyland. Underground fire hydrants have been used in Europe and Asia since the 18th century. Above-ground pillar-type hydrants are a 19th-century invention. This one is the above-ground types that are seen across the country. There has always been a fire service at Disneyland. When the park opened on July 17th, 1955, Disney acquired a 1954 Willys Jeep with a front-mounted pump and staffed it with ex-military personnel. So, while you and the kids are whizzing down Space Mountain or being spooked by ghosts in the Haunted Mansion, an experienced and dedicated team of firefighters is watching out for your fire safety. This fire hydrant stands 34" tall and weighs a staggering 210 pounds! The professionally refinished hydrant is painted fire engine red with a brass topper. To say this is rare would be an understatement. There are only a few of these in existence. Disneyland collectors, don't get burned by letting this one get away!
