Astro Boy Tin Figure (Tezuka Productions/Billiken, c. 1990s). Fantastically rare, this is a wonderful retro-style tin action figure of Osamu Tezuka's iconic robot hero Astro Boy (Mighty Atom in Japan). Created in the 1990s, this incredible windup toy measuring a tall 8.5" is long out of print. This specific figure was showcased in the Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum in Frankfurt, Germany for its "Anime! High Art - Pop Culture" exhibition in 2008, and it can be seen on page 102 of the exhibition book Ga-Netchu! The Manga Anime Syndrome. The impact of Astro Boy on popular culture can't be overstated, and it is considered to be the work that inspired the popular aesthetic known as anime. Sure to inspire feelings of nostalgia, the head is made of vinyl, and the body is made of tin. It shows minor handling wear with some light scuffing throughout. This piece is does not come with its box or key, and this charming and rare item is sold as is.
