Animation Artist Reference and Instruction Folder (Max Fleischer/Primary Art Service, 1950). Standard artist reference pages fill this vintage folder from Max Fleischer, whose animation studio at one time eclipsed Disney in popularity. After ceding the reins of his studio to Paramount (who renamed it Famous Studios) in 1941, Max oversaw animated films made for the military, and after the war, educational films for Bray Studios (where Max had worked before creating his own studio). He created this folder as a means of training young animators. Included are six 8.5" x 11" reference sheets noted as B through G ("A" is apparently missing), plus a 7" x 6" 2-peghole sheet, all with simple figures to help show how to convey movement, perspective, and other rudimentary information. These are loose sheets, but stapled into the folder is a 13-page "Primary Animation Exercises for Beginners" with everything every working animator should know in 1950 (the copyright date on page one). Handwritten on the folder front is a note on Post Office copyrighting, dated January 31, 1951. Fascinating! Folder itself shows wear and a spine split, but interior sheets and pages have very little wear, just a touch of paper toning at the edges. Very Good condition.
