Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Module #I6 Ravenloft (1e) (TSR Inc., 1983) CGC NM- 9.2 A+ Seal Grade. Single booklet and cardstock map distributed unattached to cover. Written by Tracy and Laura Hickman. Cover and by Clyde Caldwell.Dungeons & Dragons meets Dracula in this classic, award-winning module, which had an indelible impact on the game and became a staple of "best of" lists. Leaning heavily on elements of gothic horror, one of its cleverest innovations was the fictional Tarot-adjacent Tarokka deck, used to randomize key plot elements via a "card reading" early in the adventure; use of isometric maps and memorable NPCs added even more depth to its gameplay.
One of the most popular and influential D&D modules ever produced (Dungeon magazine ranked it #2 of "The 30 Greatest D&D Adventures of All Time" in 2004), it has generated several revisions, adaptations, sequels and anniversary editions, and given rise to the Domains of Dread campaign setting. Most recently, it was revised for the game's fifth edition ruleset as Curse of Strahd (2016), and the setting was updated for 5e in Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft (2021). Tracy Hickman later went on to cement his status as a D&D / RPG icon by helming the initial 14-volume series of Dragonlance modules. CGC notes, "Seal type: LRT." CGC census 6/24: 1 in 9.2, 1 higher.
