Description
"Walt Disney Animation Storyboarding" Internal Studio Guide (Walt Disney, 1991). "Walt Disney Animation Storyboarding" was an internal document/book that was put together to assist storytellers in the process and objective of story development and pitching the project to producers and studio heads. According to John Canemaker, in Paper Dreams: The Art and Artists of Disney Storyboards, the first storyboards at Disney evolved from comic book-like "story sketches" created in the 1920s to illustrate concepts for animated shorts such as Plane Crazy and Steamboat Willie. Within a few years, the idea spread to other studios. In the biography of her father, The Story of Walt Disney, Diane Disney Miller explains that the first complete storyboards were created for the 1933 Disney short Three Little Pigs. This comb-bound book consists of 62 pages. The book was put together by Vance Gerry (1929 - 2005) with a chapter on storyboard presentation by Joe Ranft (1960 - 2005). Vance Gerry was a well-respected veteran storyboard artist whose credits include The Magical World of Disney, One Hundred and One Dalmatians, The Sword in the Stone, The Jungle Book, The Aristocats, The Rescuers, and The Lion King. Ranft was an animator, storyboard artist, director, comedian, voice actor, and magician who worked for Disney and Pixar. Needless to say, this book is chock-full of valuable information for any animator or storyboard artist. The book is well-used and exhibits edge wear and smudging. It's in Good condition. This is an internal document and was never sold or made available to the general public. A real prize for any collector of animation or budding storyboard artist.Auction Info
