Magic: The Gathering Alpha Edition Still Sealed Starter Deck (Wizards of the Coast, 1993). Ladies and Gentlemen, when it comes to Magic: The Gathering, the only item that could compare to this would be an unopened Alpha box. There are simply no words to describe that this exists, but yet it does. Starter decks come complete with a rule book and 60 cards and the breakdown is as such: 2 rares, 13 uncommons, and 45 commons. These packs were made to open and immediately start playing the game. Think on this, theoretically, there could be an Alpha edition Black Lotus and any other rare in the set including any other "Power Nine" card! What would an untouched Black Lotus, Mox, Time Walk or Timetwister bring if they just happened to be in there? Of course, Heritage Auctions cannot possibly know what is inside the package, nor are we advocating opening this deck. But it is one of those times a person dreams of the possibilities isn't it? Box has the smallest of corner drops on one corner. This is so minute, that it is highly doubtful any of the cards inside were injured. Shrink wrap is perfect with no fraying.Provenance: The consignor was a consultant for Wizards of the Coast and happened to be in house the day all the items came from the printers. He was told "take what you want", and so he grabbed a Starter Deck and held onto it for 27 years. Unfortunately, he also crushed all our hopes and dreams when he passed on taking the uncut Black Lotus sheet! How do we know it is an Alpha and not a Beta? No UPC bar code on the bottom of the box. By the Beta edition, UPC bar codes were printed on the box.
