    Description

Mad Cufflinks (EC, 1957). Mad Magazine began offering five styles of jewelry manufactured by Astrahan of New York in June 1957, priced at $2 each or $3 for a pair of cuff links. Mad discontinued selling them by early 1958. Only 1,000 to 2,000 pieces were sold, according to the publisher, and all are excessively rare today with well under 100 pieces surviving. The cuff links were described by Mad as follows: "If you wear these 'What... Me Worry?' Kid cuff links with long-sleeved shirts, you'll amuse your friends. If you pierce your wrists and wear them with short-sleeved shirts, you'll kill your friends!" Excellent condition. From the Grant Geissman collection.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
