Kem Weber Airline Chair from the Walt Disney Studios (c. 1934-35). Here is something you almost never see -- an original chair used at the brand new Walt Disney Studio. In the book California Design, 1930-1965: Living in a Modern Way (MIT Press, 2011), there is an extensive write-up about the Kem Weber Airline Chair. It states "Weber offered the chair design to a number of firms, including Thonet, in New York and the Johnson Furniture Company, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. All companies he offered it to declined, citing poor consumer market of the depression years. Weber also launched a publicity campaign, speaking to various groups and newsletters (see for example Carleton Cady 'Kem Weber Tells What He's After in Modern Furniture' -- Grand Rapids Herald, July 3, 1936). He established his own firm, the Airline Chair Company, to manufacture them, but only 200-300 were actually made. The great majority of them went to the Walt Disney Studio in Burbank." This is an extremely rare original Kem Weber Airline Chair that was used at the Walt Disney Animation Studios, manufactured in birch and ash with oil cloth, measuring 30.5" x 34.25" x 25". Good to Very Good condition.
