Description
EC Crypt of Terror #1 Cover Silverprint Proof (EC, 1955). Crypt of Terror was the original title for EC's flagship horror series Tales From the Crypt, as featured on the first three issues. It was also to be a new book added to EC's line-up in 1955, until poor sales, resulting from the whipped-up panic over comic book content that saw the birth of the Comic Code Authority, changed everything. A cover had been completed and used to make this original EC Silverprint proof before publisher Bill Gaines killed the title and converted it to the last issue of Tales From the Crypt (issue #46). This rare proof, printed same as published size, was hand colored (either by Marie Severin or EC editor-in-chief Al Feldstein) for use as a printer's guide. The top right corner was cut off after the print was affixed to a backing board; the proof is otherwise in Very Good condition.Auction Info
