The Mousetrap Disney In-House Magazine for Employees In The Service (Walt Disney, 1937). This rarity offers a behind-the-scenes look at 1930s Disney! Only 500 copies were printed by Ward Ritchie Press. This is Joe Magro's personal copy #485. An extra pinup poster with art by Fred Moore and Bill Justice is included. The magazine was done for Disney staffers serving in the military, "to let you know what's going on at the studio." It was definitely meant for insiders and notes, "All references herein to characters, persons, and even places living or dead are purely malicious."
There are two original drawings in this copy: a Goofy by Nick Nichols and a caricature of an aged Snow White signed "Amby" (perhaps Nick Ambro).
Fascinatingly, the list of the pinups has a directory of some of the servicemen this magazine went out to, and in addition to Disney standbys like Frank Thomas, there are a lot of names the comic collector will recognize, some whom we know from the Western Publishing Disney comics like writer Del Connell and artist Tony Strobl, and others who you might be surprised to hear even worked for Disney, like George Baker ("Sad Sack"), Hank Ketcham ("Dennis the Menace"), and the longtime Tarzan artist Jesse Marsh!
About half of the front cover has separated from the ring binding. Measures approximately 9" x 12". From the Joe Magro Collection.
