Disney Strike Flyer with Art by Maurice Noble (1941). By 1940, Maurice Noble was at the top of the Disney ladder. However, in 1941, he joined the Disney Strike. He outlines his feeling towards the strike in the great book The Noble Approach: Maurice Noble and the Zen of Animation Design by Tod Polson (Chronicle Books, 2013). He says he could have worked for Disney his whole life had he not supported his fellow artists on the strike. This is a rare print sheet that states "Disney Artists Still on Strike Despite the Rumors." It showcases a mad Donald Duck, and looks to have been run off on a mimeograph machine. Paper is 8.5" x 14" with the Screen Cartoon Guild address 1441 North McCadden Place, Hollywood, California written at the bottom of the sheet. What makes this Strike flyer so unique is that Maurice Noble has done a series of concept art/storyboard drawings on the back of this sheet. It is hand-signed by Maurice Noble (1911-2001) under his artwork. So this lot is original Maurice Noble artwork plus rare Disney strike document. Minor handling and edge wear. Fine condition. From the Maurice Noble Archives.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
