Disney Store Madam Upanova Prop Figure (Walt Disney, 1995). Created as a display for the Disney Store retail chain, this is a marvelous and large statue of Mademoiselle Upanova from the "Dance of the Hours" sequence of 1940's Fantasia. The very first "retail-tainment", or entertainment store, Disney Store was founded in 1987 and exclusively sold Disney-related items. This graceful ostrich seen at one of the chain's locations measures a staggering 50" tall with a width and depth of 37" and 24" respectively. The year 1995 is etched into the tailfeather. Created for display purposes and never for sale, most of these statues were destroyed when locations would close. Included in this lot is an official Disney Auctions Certificate of Authenticity. This incredibly rare figure shows mild surface scuffing and some paint chipping in places. It is free standing, but unstable on a flat surface. The condition overall is Very Good.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
