Description

Lyonel Feininger The Kin-Der-Kids Sunday Comic Strip Tear Sheet dated 6-17-1906 (Chicago Tribune, 1906). This episode is titled "Aunty Jimjam and Cousin Gussy have a Vision of the Kin-Der-Kids". It was a rare and short-lived comic strip that appeared for only 1906-07. And this was just the 8th episode (counting the introductory strip on 4-29-1906). The fantastical storyline and offbeat humor contains elements of Winsor McCay's Little Nemo and R. F. Outcault's Buster Brown. The series was about three unusual children who set off in a bathtub for a voyage around the world, pursued by their Aunt Jim-Jam, and watched over by a bizarre personage named Mysterious Pete. Cartoonist Lyonel Feininger was born in New York City in 1871 and moved to Europe in 1887 where he studied art and became one of Germany's leading cartoonists before accepting a job with The Chicago Tribune. By 1907, he had turned to painting in the cubist and expressionist styles, and his success led to his work being displayed prominently in both the US and Europe. The tear sheet is approximately 16" x 21.5", with toning, a minor rip in the top edge, and a bit of tape on the upper right of the top edge. In Very Good condition, quite impressive considering its age.
