Description
Joe DeVito Doc Savage vs. Python Limited-Edition Statue Unnumbered (Condé Nast Publ. & Graphitti Designs, 1993). DeVito's paintings-in-oil of the pulp-fiction hero are as recent as the cover for 2013's Doc Savage: Phantom Lagoon. This cold-cast resin marvel takes the Man of Bronze to another level -- a 3-D representation of Savage in combat with an immense serpent. Echoes are evident of the ancient marble Laocoon & His Sons (excavated in Rome in 1506) -- but unlike the helpless Trojan Laocoon, Doc Savage seems to have the advantage. Only the original carton-label is missing; that would have included a serial number for this casting in an edition of 295. The base (rear) contains DeVito's engraved signature and stamped copyright information. The statue seldom resurfaces on the open market. Dimensions (base) 11" x 6" at a height of approximately 9". Rich bronze patina, with a light-catching burnished surface. The most delicate element, the python's forkéd tongue, is firmly seated. Traces of dust in the crevices. Excellent condition.Auction Info
